1971 fue, musicalmente hablando, un año de mucha creatividad, donde las bandas y artistas prefirieron asumir riesgos, experimentar y progresar imaginativamente llevando la música a terrenos hasta entonces desconocidos, en lugar de acomodarse con lo que tiene fácil aceptación en el mercado.
Y el resultado no podía ser mejor como bien acreditan algunas de las pequeñas obras maestras que vieron la luz en aquel año que. También marcaría la consolidación de géneros o tendencias musicales como el hard rock, el rock progresivo, el krautrock o el jazz rock, que a principios de la década de los 70 todos ellos alcanzarían unos límites de calidad insospechables y de enorme peso creativamente hablando para futuras y nuevas generaciones de músicos; como curiosidad podríamos añadir que aquel mismo año también se sentaron las bases de un todavía incipiente glam rock que poco tiempo más tarde emergería con mucha fuerza y repercusión a nivel popular.
